Second youth charged after two police assaulted on Aberdeen road amid mass violence

A second person has been charged following after mass violence involving a group of youths broke out on an Aberdeen road.

Two police officers were assaulted during the incident at Byron Square at around 9.15pm on Sunday (May 17) with a police car also vandalised. Officers from Police Scotland were allegedly targeted by a group of youths intent on causing violence and engaging in antisocial behaviour.

Police stopped an illegal electric bike and arrested and charged a 16-year-old boy.

Following enquiries a male youth has now been charged in connection with vandalism. The investigation is ongoing to identify others involved.

Chief Inspector Vicky Stables said: "It is vital that officers are safe while carrying out their role in protecting our communities. Being faced with such antisocial behaviour and violence is deplorable. This type of behaviour will not be tolerated, and we will continue to investigate and identify those involved

"High visibility patrols remain ongoing in the local area and officers are working with local businesses to provide reassurance. Anyone with concerns should speak to officers."
