Kingdom Hearts' Sora joins Fortnite this week, and it looks like more characters may follow

The Kingdom Hearts hype train isn't ready to pull in just yet, as Fortnite has now confirmed that the series' spiky-haired protagonist Sora is set to join the battle royale shooter this week.

A Kingdom Hearts collaboration has been noted by leakers multiple times over the last year, and it seems that, following on from Kingdom Hearts 4's reveal excitement, the partnership is finally coming to fruition.

The brief teaser for the Fortnite x Kingdom Hearts collaboration, shared via Fortnite's official social channels, shows Sora's iconic keyblade in the sand before the hero grabs it and hefts it over his shoulder.

While Sora is the only character confirmed so far, a series of mysterious posts on the Fortnite X account suggest that the Kingdom Hearts 4 protagonist won't be arriving alone.

"'Looks like my summer vacation is… over.' -R," reads one of four posts made over the space of an hour. While the Kingdom Hearts oblivious of us may have been left scratching our heads, series fans quickly identified this as pointing to Roxas, a fellow keyblade wielder who is Sora's Nobody sort-of clone and Organization XIII member. All of which makes sense if you've played Kingdom Hearts, I'm assured.

"'If the world is made of light and darkness… We'll be the darkness.' -R

'And who knows, starting a new journey might not be so hard…' -K," read two further posts.

The additional messages, signed off as "K" and "R," imply that Sora's childhood friends Kairi and Riku may also be hopping aboard the Fortnite battle bus, where we hope they've received some swift training on how to us an assortment of firearms. Then again, given Fortnite collabs typically arrive with a few new weapons in tow, it's likely the Keyblade will be making its debut as a melee option, too.

Sora's not the only videogame star rumored to be joining Fortnite soon, with many fans believing the OG Doom Slayer is also poised to enter the fray. In any case, it's a busy old time on Fortnite's island these days, with Chapter 7 Season 4: Override bringing Sonic's Green Hill Zone, Tetris and more into the mix. Fortunately, Sora's well accustomed to hopping between different Disney worlds, so Fortnite's current gaming medley shouldn't prove too overwhelming.
