Gemini app rolling out ‘Extended’ thinking level, new 3rd-party app integrations

Ahead of I/O 2026, Google continues to roll out Gemini app features, with some users now seeing a “Thinking level” option.

In the model picker, you’ll see a new “Thinking level” menu at the bottom of the sheet. This only appears when selecting Fast (Gemini 3 Flash) or Gemini 3.1 Pro, with Thinking excluded. Your options are “Standard” and “Extended.” 

So far, Thinking level is seeing a limited rollout. This matches how Google AI Studio offers Low, Medium, and High thinking levels.

Meanwhile, the Gemini app is preparing to add more integrations with third-party apps. At the moment, third-party apps include @GitHub, @OpenStax, @Spotify, and @WhatsApp.

Support documents show that @Canva, @Instacart, and @OpenTable are coming. This is not yet rolled out.

Canva

• Generate images in Gemini and edit them in Canva

Example prompts include:

• Use the Canva app to create a design for a wedding invitation. The theme is rustic with a color palette of dusty rose and sage green.
• Generate an image of a cat riding a unicorn and use it to generate a business card design in Canva
• Find any Canva sheets that mention “budget forecast.”
• Can you create a new folder in Canva named “Q4 Marketing Assets”?
• Reply to the comment that says “The font is too small” on “Company History” with “Font size increased.”
• How many pages total are in the “Employee Engagement Survey” Canva document?
• @Canva, please move the “Quarterly Review” presentation to the “Executive/Final” folder.

Instacart

You can check the availability of groceries and household items in stores and add items directly to your Instacart shopping cart with Gemini Apps.

Your prompt can specify “which store you want to shop at and the version of the product you want to add to your cart,” while your “default saved address on Instacart is used to find nearby stores.” Example prompts include:

• <Add link to recipe> I want to make this. Can you add all the ingredients to my Instacart?
• Add bananas, oatmeal, almond milk, and protein powder to my Instacart.
• What stores near me carry vegan cheese?
• Find a good recipe for chicken noodle soup and add all the ingredients to my cart.

OpenTable

You can ask Gemini Apps to help you find, book, and manage reservations for restaurants on OpenTable. To do this, Gemini Apps use Reserve with Google to check availability and complete your bookings with OpenTable.

Capabilities include:

• Book, change, and cancel reservations
• Check your existing reservations

• Check if [restaurant name] has a table for 2 around 7:30 PM and book it if they do.
• I’m in the mood for Mexican food near me. Find something good with availability for 3 in the next hour and book the best option.
• I need to find a restaurant that can take 8 people for dinner next Friday, is a good place for a celebration, and maybe has steak or seafood. Let me know what’s available after 7 PM.
•  Book the second restaurant.
•  Add this to my Google Calendar and remind me tomorrow to text the family.

Cancel reservations
